IntelliTheme Launch And Giveaway

Hello everyone! It’s John here from AdSense Flippers.

Justin and I were discussing the release of IntelliTheme (the WordPress theme we’ve been developing for the last 6 months), and he mentioned that it might be useful if I took some time to do a short write-up about the theme here on AdSense Flippers. I think this post will be particularly useful for those of you who are actively creating websites for income, and also for those of you who are looking to enter this space.

But, I’m getting ahead of myself!

To tell this story properly, we have to go back in time a little bit.

When I came onboard with the AdSense Flippers, they had only recently seen success by building and selling websites monetized with AdSense. And, while it was clear that this was a winning business model, we knew we could improve on their results. Actually, this was in large part why I was hired in the first place – to see if we could squeeze more value and profit out of the AdSense Flippers portfolio (over 2500 websites created and counting!).

Unfortunately, this is a pretty difficult task to accomplish at that kind of scale. Or, for anything more than a couple of sites really. Optimizing and improving conversions for one website is pretty straightforward. Simply make some changes, run some split tests, and keep the winning adjustments. Over time, this can result in dramatic earning increases. Unfortunately, the process of optimizing a website is both extremely time-consuming and labor intensive. In fact, there are hundreds of people who do ONLY this for a living. Entire companies and teams are even built around this principle.

So, we had a tricky situation on our hands. How were we to systematically improve and optimize our websites without spending unrealistic amounts of time and money on each individual domain? (Some of which only earn a few dollars per month. And thus, wouldn’t be worth a great deal of personal attention.) We looked around for a done-for-you service.  They exist, but they’re awfully expensive and would eat up any additional profits!

At first, we simply tried different themes that were popular within our industry. WordPress themes like Prosense and CTR Theme quickly became the top performers, so we rolled with those for quite a while. However, we ended having to do a lot of theme hacking to get them to serve our purposes. So, whenever one of our agents would setup a new site, they would need a laundry-list of text documents full of custom CSS, HTML and PHP code to copy into the themes before the site was ready to roll. This was a huge pain point, and a major limitation, as it rendered many of our sites and themes unable to be updated (we’d lose the custom code).

We needed a better, more streamlined solution.

So, we started brainstorming both on how we could build a more useful platform, and how we could get more granular with our optimization techniques. Ultimately, we had to figure out how could we test a wide variety of designs and ad placements on ALL of our websites. And then also ensure that each of our websites was performing at its best. We quickly realized that some kind of software would have to provide the answer.

Since all of our websites were already built with WordPress, a custom theme became the obvious solution. Still, none of us had encountered a WordPress theme that would track AdSense clicks automatically…we weren’t even sure it could be done. But, we knew that even a small increase in CTR across all of our sites had the potential to yield huge returns. So, we had to find a way. And that’s how IntelliThemewas born.

Split-testing is Time Consuming

The first problem we had to tackle was to figure out how to automate the split testing of different design options and ad locations. We didn’t want to have to hire someone to login to all of our sites, change themes, setup conversion tracking, etc… That would be a full-time job even if we only had a 100 websites! So, the theme had to do that on its own. We had to be able to set it and forget it. And, that’s exactly what IntelliTheme does. IntelliTheme comes pre-packaged with five different layouts, which we call ‘Presets’.

IntelliTheme Presets

Why five? I’m glad you asked. Gathering the quantity of data necessary for statistically valid split testing is exhausting and takes a ton of time. Change one design element, headline, font, color, etc… and you need hundreds of impressions to get any sort of valid or actionable information. Thus we realized early on that too many Presets would actually make the theme less useful, as layout testing would simply require too much time (literally, months and months).

The five Presets we’ve included with IntelliTheme are already based on the BEST design elements from themes we’ve already tested on thousands of sites. So, we knew this would be an excellent starting point. But, we still like to give our sites a bit of a custom feel. So, we created the ability to change colors, adjust fonts, alter text sizes and even to upload header images.

So once the theme is installed, all you have to do is activate any or all of these five different Presets, and they will begin to rotate in for different visitors to your site – Automatically running the split-test for you. Once you get things setup, you can walk away and wait for the data to roll in. Pretty cool, eh?

So Where is All My Data?

Secondly, we didn’t want to have to link each site up to a bunch of different testing tools, conversion trackers, and web traffic analyzers. Primarily, we wanted to avoid this because its a pain. But, a larger technical problem was that there wasn’t a way for these external tools to know what layouts were showing when.. The solution to this issue was building the data tracking right into the theme. That’s right, IntelliTheme will track your pageviews, ad clicks and CTR for you – right within the WordPress Admin. IntelliTheme Statistics

No more setting up accounts and passwords all over the web, linking them, pasting random bits of code all over your sites, etc… Now all you have to do is turn on IntelliTheme, let it run for a few days or weeks, then log back in and check the Statistics Dashboard for the results. Data is recorded in real-time. So, you can update the stats at any point and see, down to the minute, what your conversions are looking like. (I’d also like to mention at this point that the theme works with almost any type of advertising medium, any html code in the form of an ad can be used on a site with Intellitheme, and clicks on that ad can be tracked.) You don’t even have to leave your WordPress Admin!

We’ve found this to be an extremely useful and handy feature. It makes improving our sites SO simple. We can just send an agent once every month or so to check the collected statistics. If one particular Preset is performing best, then they can turn the other ones off. It only takes – literally, seconds. I know that this probably sounds pretty cool now, but while we were building the tool, we were definitely worried that, ultimately, there would be ONE specific Preset that always outperformed the others. (Eliminating the need for split-testing and making IntelliTheme, more or less – useless.) However, even our early testing showed some presets perform better on particular niches than others.

Some of the presets are indeed quite different looking than others. Not to mention you’re able to customize each of them quite easily. And, we have consistently found that different layouts work better for different websites and industries. It’s very difficult to predict which preset is going to perform best on any given site, as it varies widely by niche and industry. For our niche sites, we’re pretty happy when we see an overall bump in CTR as a result of the theme. And, for authority site builders, this is a great starting tool to help you narrow down what types of layouts and theme choices could be used to craft a custom theme that is both beautiful and profitable.

Security Concerns When Optimizing

Finally, the last problem we built IntelliTheme to solve, is one of security and simplicity. Before IntelliTheme, having our employees testing out AdSense click conversions meant giving them access to tools like Google Analytics, our AdSense Dashboard, and even FTP access to our servers.  Not good!

With Intellitheme, all of this is now inside of the WordPress admin, and, it’s extraordinarily simple. A five minute video can basically teach our agents how to set it up, how to use it, how to analyze the results, and how to pick the winners. It’s pretty much dummy-proof.

The Future of IntelliTheme

We’ve made a big investment of time and energy in IntelliTheme, and, while that’s already paying off, we’re also excited about the future of the platform. IntelliTheme is our baby and we’ve rolled it out to all of our sites and will continue to add to it for future sites. Here are a few things we’re looking to release in upcoming versions

Preset/Layout Builder

Create your own custom presetsand layouts with drag and drop capability. Use your own creativity to test your designs against the packaged ones, you choose the winners and then test them against each other.

Automated Optimization

In the next go around, we would like the theme to go ahead and turn off the layouts that simply aren’t performing well, without you having to even log in and check on your site. Once a statistically significant amount of pageviews have occurred, the theme will automatically make a choice as to whether or not it should continue using that layout.  (We believe this will be a game-changer…a totally hands-off solution that just prints us more money!)

Improved Presets

Secondly, we’re going to use the data we will be collecting by having IntelliTheme installed on thousands of websites, to create even more useful and amazing Presets. We’d also like to include some responsive and even mobile designs. How’s That Sound?

If you made it this far in the post, my guess is that this is the type of tool that is likely right up your alley. If you own any number of websites that are monetized with AdSense, Amazon, etc… and you’re wanting a simple and streamlined way of improving their performance, Intellitheme is your answer.

Buy it today and IntelliTheme will help you:

  • Improve click-through-rates and earnings by giving you accurate statistics collected and compiled in real time.
  • Automate the process of split testing, relieving the need for you to use third party tools, sites and accounts.
  • Simplify your optimization efforts by keeping all the necessary tools and information right inside of your WordPress install.
  • Customize your websites with fonts, colors and images.

  4. Hi guys, I am a big follower of your work and burned through the podcasts like a college course! Really useful resource.

Quick question about the theme though. I am sure I’ll buy it either way but I was wondering if there is an update on the automated optimisation. is this something that will defiantly be implemented, and if so will there be an extra charge for this?

    Thanks once again.

    • Absolutely something we will include in a future version of the product. At this point we are focused on a new version for April that will clear up some minor bugs plus add some new reporting features. The automated adjustment piece is another leap in development that will take more time. Perhaps by the end of the year.

  8. Ben says:

Looks great, although I expected more of the designs, but maybe that wouldn’t benefit the ctr. Are you planning to do add this split testing algorithm also on the colors used for each theme? So you can test the same theme with different colors?

Just curious: is the theme selling like wild fire?

    • Ben, we will probably add an editor where you can create you own presets. This seems to be the easiest way for people to test their ideas without creating a zillion presets. Once you create your own preset, you will be able to export it and then import it into another site.

Sales have been almost exactly as Justin predicted.

  9. Eric M Ihde says:

Hi Guys, A good idea, from the video it looks like it is very easy to navigate and understand. As far as the different themes I can’t help but to think that one template will “win-out” as far as adsense traffic stats. This will make all the other templates less appealing. Do you really believe that the “best” layout will be different depending on the user/market?

    • Yes, I do. And even small changes in CTR can have a big difference in revenue. Sure Tower Right works best for “most” sites, but there a lot that do better using other presets. You’re leaving free money on the table if you don’t test and figure this out.

      • eric m ihde says:

Interesting! I was a stock trader for many years and did many studies and collected data related to what “approach” worked best per situation. It would be cool if you could collect a library of results over time and post what you find. Thanks for your site. It’s very good.

        • JustinWCooke says:

          Hey Eric!

Actually, we’re collecting data on ALL of the sites we have IntelliTheme installed on AND (anonymously) all of the sites customers have installed the theme on. The data is being stored…the problem is retrieving the data…something we’ll be able to do in the future. :-)

          • eric m ihde says:

Good. That will be interesting data. On another note the theme themselves. Seem very limited. Would be cool if you could start incorporating more popular themes into InteliTheme. “Add theme” function? Not sure of what the coding requirements would be but it seems that popular existing themes could be worked into the mix. When I look at the choices i don’t really see a theme that works for my site.

          • The intention is to add an editor where you can create you own presets easily. This will allow you to test an unlimited number of variations.

  11. I think , this theme has no value for Indian Adsense publishers because over optimization is one of the most targeted cause of account disable ( Indian ).Honestly , it is seen that there is no excuse for Indian publishers where USA or UK publishers get notification for any violation but Indian never ……direct disable.

    • JustinWCooke says:

      Hey Shazida,

You’re right that over-optimization is a concern for all AdSense publishers (Not just those that are Indian!) but this is going to depend on how you layout your content and your on-site SEO, not them theme you choose.

You can be as over or under optimized with this theme as you wish.

I’ve been always on the look out for a perfect WP theme that is truly wordpress optimized. I hope I can try this out soon. =)

  14. jimmy says:

Bought the theme…love it! Little off topic what should my CTR be for each website without worring too much about the big G?

    • JustinWCooke says:

      Sweet, Jimmy…thanks!

The CTR for our sites will vary widely depending on the site. Some are well into double-digit territory and others are in the low single-digit territory. It’s against the ToS to mention specifics, but I would say you don’t have to worry about having high CTR on a particular site.

Now…if you’re doing something sketchy to GET that high CTR (strategically placing images next to ads to confuse/trick user…that kind of thing) you could be in trouble, but your average, everyday use…don’t worry about it.

  21. Hey guys, been really excited to see this. Congratulations on the launch! :)

  22. To my mind it’s the best wordpress theme I’ve ever seen. Great job guys. Keep up the good work. I’ve twited about it and shared the link in my facebook and really hope i’ll win.

  23. Chetan Jariwala says:

The name pretty much says it all! I must say, One of the best products that have come out in a long long time… Justin & Joe are serious entrepreneurs & their passion reflects in their product. Can’t wait to get my hands on it.

  24. Peter Go says:

Looks like a great tool. But I’m curious how this is tracking the clickthroughs (because the clicks are sent directly to the ad network). Is it done using some sort of “wrapper”? If that’s the case, won’t there be a risk of the ad network detecting the wrapper as an artificial clicker?

    • Hey, Peter. We are 100% compliant with Google AdSense TOS as we do not interfere with the ad unit code or put the ad unit in an iframe. We simply monitor the mouse for activity in the ad area using JQUERY.

  25. John says:

Do you have a non-clickbank payment processor? I need to pay VAT 9€ with clickbank and that’s not good.

  26. Thank You guys for teaching and sharing your knowledge on niche adsense sites. I look forward to using your new them on my sites :)

  27. WOOHOO! Congrats guys.. been eagerly anticipating this release, cant wait to give it a run! (just posted on FB and Twitter too!) Well Done!

  28. Mel Nat says:

Hi i just tweeted it and posted to facebook. It would be great to get this theme. I was just looking for a theme to improve my website.

  29. Emmanuel says:

And more so.. specific results of the various test done

  30. Ryan Kerian says:

Very cool. I’ve struggled with various themes from Heatmap to Thesis 2.0 and many of the features you are offering would be of great help.

  31. Congrats on the product launch!

  32. Sean says:

Hitting the buy button just redirects me back to this blog post…any idea whats up?

  33. Ian Adair says:

When reading through this, and after listening to some of your podcasts which mentioned the temptation to sell your ebook, I expected you to charge $200-$500 for this theme. Imagine my surprise when it’s only $50! I will likely be buying it very soon.

Does the licensing allow for buyers to sell websites with your theme installed, or do you plan on selling a developer license at any point?

  34. Rossomeness says:

Sweet, guys! Looking forward to seeing how it looks and how easy it is to at around with. Love the split testing thing…great value add!

    • JustinWCooke says:

Thanks, man! As it stands, the split-testing is awesome and really points out which layout/preset makes more money for that niche. Funny…it’s not always the same preset as we thought it might be.

  35. Done mates. Heard it long time ago and I shut my mouth up not leaking it..:-)
Can’t help to using it on my sites…

  36. I’ve already bought my copy. I hope it lives up to expectations!

  37. The split testing and statistics features puts this theme head and shoulders above any other Adsense theme on the market. A theme made for Adsense by real Adsense experts. How could you go wrong with this one?

    • JustinWCooke says:

Awesome…thanks, Norma! The functionality on the theme is pretty unique. It’s similar to CTR theme, except its split-testing full theme changes not just ad placement. That and it’s measuring “true” CTR and not just what AdSense is reporting, hehe…

  38. Adam Moody says:

Nice! Been looking forward to seeing this come out, congrats on what looks to be a job well done.

    • JustinWCooke says:

Thanks, Adam! Really stoked to have this up/live…really hoping it helps others make more $$ on their sites!

      • Adam Moody says:

Indeed! I’m curious (and probably know the answer…), do you plan on sharing results from the data collected over your websites? Also, is there any generic data that is collected from installed themes NOT on your website that can be used to quantify the settings on an even larger scale?

  39. John says:

Hi Justine, reallly cool features you guyd built on here. Congrats! My suggestion: create a demo site so we can “have the feel” of at least the front-end!

  40. Steve Eason says:

I agree, you need a bigger Buy button. I didn’t see it at all until I went back and looked a few times.

The theme looks great! You certainly have gone the extra mile to add in the statistics, but I wouldn’t expect anything less from you guys! It looks like you’ve taken the best pieces of CTR and other themes and made them your own with a nice candy coating on the outside.

Congrats on the new theme, I look forward to playing around with it. I’ll be sure to post this on my FB page and Tweet it out.

    • JustinWCooke says:

      Thanks, Steve!

We just put big Buy Now buttons in the post, hehe. We’re really digging the theme…we have a TON of ideas and things we’d like to accomplish with this. We’ll continue to build out more features/functionality as we grow…should be interesting!

  41. muszleit says:

I caught myself doubting if i really should tweet such obvious marketing tricks :-) But then, yet again in the last few weeks, i remembered the tons of high quality information you are sharing on your site here. Giving my credibility to help others promote their products tends to fire back if i’m not standing behind the product or company. But on your case i can honestly say, i wish you the best of luck for this theme. May the god of sales be with you.

    • JustinWCooke says:

      I know, I know…it’s a marketing trick but I couldn’t help myself…it works! :-)

Yeah, we’re happy to share free/useful information whenever/wherever we can. We fully stand behind IntelliTheme. This is our baby…we’re taking it with us into the future…not a pump and dump! :-)

  42. Look Nice, being waiting for this theme, i will surely be buying it if i dont win, but will be nice if i win a copy.

    • JustinWCooke says:

Thanks…it’s been a long time coming! We’ve worked the bugs out and are excited to add a bunch of new users. The more people use the theme on their sites, the better we can tweak the Presets and make it better for everyone!

  43. Mark Scott says:

tweeted and FB’d. Sounds like an awesome theme. Would love to see it in action if you have any sites you can show me?
    Hope i win, I can’t afford to buy it now :( !

  44. It would be awesome to see a demo on a single site, just to see how the HTML code is, how customizable is in terms of looks, etc… Does it accept child themes?
It’s an awesome idea though, I feel like buying it just because I cannot figure out how you would program something so cool on WordPress.

    • JustinWCooke says:

      Hey Irene!

It is customizable…but less so than you might think. The goal is split-testing and conversion optimization so we wanted to keep the options DOWN so that can be done effectively. No demo to login to at the moment.

We WILL be releasing the ability to create your own “presets” or child themes in the future…look for that in a later version.

      • So is not possible to change the colours, stuff like that at least? So you don’t end up with a site that looks exactly like a thousand others?
I am happy to leave the layout issues to the IA, but I’d really like to be able to change fonts/colours/backgrounds :) Even through CSS :)

  45. Auke Kuiper says:

Really excited! Can’t wait to test it with my sites. Hopefully I’ll win with the give away!

  46. Is it only me who can’t find a Demo URL ???

    • No demo at this time, Mohammed, but it really is a simple theme. The videos cover most of the UI. I encourage you to check it it out, if you don’t like it, there is always a money back guarantee!

  47. Hey guys , what’s up ?

Congratulations on your product launch. I wish you all the best.

All those who are serious about adsense will find it extremely helpful .

One more thing . Put a bigger buy button here . Come on , I can hardly see it and I have four eyes. :)

    Be healthy and smile !

  48. Did it! Would be awesome to win! :D However, looks very nice anyways :)

    • JustinWCooke says:

Sweet…thank you! Really excited to get this launched. The more people that sign up, the more data we’ll get, and the better we can make it for everyone using the theme!
