Without further ado, let’s get into this interview.
First up, let’s learn a little bit about you. Can you tell us about your background in building and running online businesses?
I’ve been building and running this e-commerce business for around 12 years, with most of my experience focused on Amazon in Europe. We started this business from scratch, and over the years, we developed our own brands and products, expanded across the main European Amazon marketplaces, and built long-term relationships with our suppliers. Today, most of the day-to-day Amazon operations are handled by an experienced external team, so the business is well established and doesn’t require a lot of daily involvement from us.
Why are you selling the business now instead of keeping it and growing it further?
After 12 years in this business, I decided it was time to focus on other projects. I’m now the CEO of a medical device startup, which requires most of my attention, and my business partner is also focused on other businesses. We believe this business deserves a new owner who can focus on its growth.
Can you describe the amount and type of work you do on this business to maintain it?
The business requires very little of my time, as an experienced external team manages the day-to-day Amazon operations and advertising, including PPC. My involvement is mainly overseeing the business, inventory, and suppliers, so it only requires a few hours per week from me.
If you were to keep this business, what are some of the ways you would try to grow it?
I see several clear growth opportunities: expanding into the US market with existing products, adding new sales channels such as TikTok Shop and Shopify, and launching additional products under the existing brands. The infrastructure and brands are already there, and there is significant room to grow.
What would you say are the biggest risks with this business that buyers should be aware of?
The main risk is the same as with most Amazon businesses: changes in Amazon policies, fees, or competition. However, the business has been operating successfully for around 12 years, which gives it a long and proven track record.
How much support are you willing to offer the buyer who acquires this business?
I’ll be happy to provide full support during the transition, including introductions to our suppliers and the external management team. Even after that, I’ll always be available if the buyer needs advice, help, or anything else. After 12 years with this business, I want to make sure the new owner succeeds.
Are you open to negotiating something like an earn-out agreement?
I would prefer a full upfront payment, but I’m open to considering a reasonable structure depending on the buyer and the terms of the offer.
Okay, final question. If you had to put yourself in the shoes of a buyer, why is your business worth buying?
Because it’s a proven and profitable business with around 12 years of history, well-established products with a large number of reviews and returning customers, and an experienced team handling the day-to-day operations. A buyer isn’t starting this business from zero. They acquire a solid existing business with a very strong foundation and significant opportunities for further growth.
