So, without further ado, let’s get into this interview. First up, let’s learn a little bit about you. Can you tell us about your background in building and running online businesses?
So, I built this one myself from the ground up to build this YouTube channel, with automotive content—reliability and buying-guide-style videos. It’s the kind of thing someone watches before buying a used car or trying to figure out why their current one keeps giving them trouble. I’ve run it solo the entire time. No employees, just one contractor who handles the video editing. On my end, I lean on some AI tools for scriptwriting and voice work, which is honestly what makes it possible to run this alone without turning it into a full-time job. You can, however, find more freelancers to outsource even more and make it more hands-off.
Why are you selling the business now instead of keeping it and growing it further?
Honestly, it’s just a shift in where my time and priorities are going right now. It’s not because there’s anything wrong with the business. It’s been solid. It’s really just about what I’ve got capacity for at this point.
Can you describe the amount and the type of work that you do on this business to maintain it?
It’s pretty light. I write the scripts myself with some AI help on the research side, and I currently handle the voice and thumbnails, too, though both of those are easy enough to hand off to someone else if a buyer would rather not do them personally. Editing is already fully outsourced to a contractor. All in, it works out to somewhere between one and five hours a week. The variations mostly come down to how much I’m publishing that week and whether I’m doing a round of topic research, which I do in batches rather than every single week.
So, if you were to keep this business, what are some of the ways you would try to grow it?
If I were sticking with it, the obvious next step is diversifying past AdSense, which is the only monetization it’s had so far. There’s real room for affiliate income and maybe some digital products, like ebooks, built right on top of the video library that’s already there. None of that requires changing how the channel actually runs day to day. It’s just stacking additional revenue on top of what’s already working.
Right, and what would you say are the biggest risks with this business that buyers should be aware of?
I’ll be upfront about this one. Some of the channel’s best-performing videos went up during a strong stretch a while back, and more recent uploads haven’t hit that same scale yet, which is a pretty normal pattern in this kind of content. Older videos build up views over time; newer ones take a while to catch up. What stayed steady through all of that is the margin. Side costs have stayed low and disciplined the whole way through, so this isn’t a business that’s gotten more expensive to run; it’s just had softer revenue recently. Beyond that, the usual thing with any YouTube channel applies here, too. You’re building on a platform you don’t control, so there’s always some dependency on how YouTube’s algorithms and policies evolve.
How much support are you willing to offer the buyer who acquires this business?
I’m offering 30 days of email and phone support after the sale. That’s enough time to walk through the handover properly, answer any questions that come up once someone’s actually running it, and make sure the transition goes smoothly.
Are you open to negotiating something like an earn-out agreement?
I prefer a clean cash flow on this one, keeping things simple for both sides, and I’d rather have a clear final exit than something tied to how the business performs after I’ve handed it over.
Okay, final question. If you had to put yourself in the shoes of a buyer, why is your business worth buying?
It stayed strong throughout, including through the softest stretch I mentioned earlier. So the underlying economics of the business haven’t actually changed. Beyond that, the system behind it is genuinely documented—the process, the tools, the prompts. It’s not just knowledge that walks out the door, and the time commitment is low enough that it fits around pretty much anything else someone’s got going on. It’s a well-run, disciplined asset for someone who wants to step into something that already works, rather than build from zero.
