Want to Become an Apprentice? These Companies Are Looking for You

Greg Elfrink Greg Elfrink November 14, 2016

Becoming an apprentice for an entrepreneur can be a game changing experience. Apprenticeships are the gateway to full-fledged entrepreneurship. You will learn skills that you would never have the opportunity to look at with other, more traditional job roles.

Apprenticeships don’t always lead into the apprentice starting their own business, sometimes an apprenticeship becomes the start of an amazing career. We have seen apprentices go from coffee baristas to CEOs of the company that originally hired them on as an apprentice.

After DCBKK (check out our 6 Takeaways from the DC Conference), we decided to give back. So we posted in the DC members forum that anyone looking to hire an apprentice could leverage our audience for applicants.

This post will have seven different apprenticeship opportunities that DCers and other trusted friends messaged us about, for you to check out and apply for. While we’re excited to share these with you, you should always check out any business you are looking to apply for and make sure it’s a good fit for you as well. You know, the same due diligence you’d do before getting into any opportunity, like we advocate when buying a new site.

For the ambitious, non-traditional worker, an apprenticeship offers opportunities that simply do not exist in traditional job roles.

While the pay may be lower than what you would want at first, the opportunity often makes it worthwhile.

What is an Apprentice?

The literal definition of an apprentice is: A person who is learning a trade from a skilled employer, having agreed to work for a fixed period at low wages.

In the online space, there is nothing cooler than working for a skilled entrepreneur that actually knows what they are talking about, who is walking the walk with their business. Things change so quickly that a low wage agreement can be a bargain for the apprentice to have the opportunity to learn right next to someone who is able to adapt to how fast the internet changes.

Mentorship in this one-on-one style can become a huge shortcut for you. It allows you to clear the fog from your brain and see what is ACTUALLY working rather than hoping some ebook you bought off the Warrior Forum is still relevant (or that it was accurate in the first place).

If you want to become a mover and a shaker in the online world, but you don’t know where to begin, then becoming an apprentice should be a top priority.

The entrepreneur will also open up their network of contacts to you (if it’s a good apprenticeship). These people could be movers and shakers in their own rights, or people with skill sets you admire that you would never have access to without your apprenticeship.

And don’t worry — over time, most apprentices eventually get paid a pretty handsome monthly fee. Why? Unlike many traditional jobs, as a successful apprentice, you will eventually become so important to the company that they won’t want to lose you to other projects. They will want to keep you around and that typically means either more perks, more wages earned, or most likely both, as you grow in your skill sets.

This probably sounds like a situation that is great for a business and takes advantage of the apprentice, but remember that they are taking a chance on someone with little experience or skill. They are betting on your passion and will to work towards your goals, at the risk of a more qualified team member.

These kind of opportunities can be hard to find. When you do find one, it could totally change your entire life like how my apprenticeship did.

Who is Hiring? Here Apprenticeship Positions That Are Available To You Right Now

Each of these positions are paid apprenticeships from other growing entrepreneurs and companies just like us. That means you will get some of the best minds in the online business space to team up with and grow your skillsets.

As we said, you’re going to have to vet these apprenticeships for yourself to see if they are a good fit. The learning experiences and opportunities are specific and unique – and there’s no way for us to know whether this will be a good (or bad) experience for you, specifically.

Just remember, the best apprentices are ambitious, driven, and creative individuals who are willing to learn.

If that is you… then apply for one of these positions below.

To Become the Master, First You Must Be the Apprentice

All of these positions could be the start of a complete lifestyle change for you. If you are driven, hardworking, and creative then these are the perfect opportunities for you.

Remember to act quick, as the competition for these kinds of positions are as fierce as you might imagine. Here are some general tips from our experience sifting through applications to make yours stand out:

  • When you apply, think about what can you possibly do for this company, and come at it that way
  • Actually look at the company websites, understand what their product is, and then give them your best shot at what could be improved
  • Being an apprentice can be A LOT of work, make sure that the position actually aligns with where YOU want to go with your career.
  • If you have side projects, SHOW them that. This helped me a lot, even though my projects weren’t polished at all, it showed I had drive and a “want” for more.
  • Show you’re wanting to go “all in” with a company. You’re here for the long term, that it isn’t some gap year for you. This will help reassure your future employer that you’re here at least long enough with them to make an ROI on investing in your future.

Employers like to see this kind of ambitious thinking (this is exactly what I did when I applied to Empire Flippers!)

Good luck, and if you know someone in YOUR personal network looking for a position like one of the above…then share this article today with them and your friends on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, or whatever social media hangout you enjoy indulging in.
