Andy joined Empire Flippers in April 2017 as a Customer Advisor and is now working as the Director of Operations. Originally from the UK, Andy is currently based in Prague with his girlfriend and greyhound. Andy is golf crazy, a huge football (don’t try and tell him it’s called soccer!) fan, and supports UK team Portsmouth FC (Pompey) for his sins!
My background is in IT sales and sales management; specifically working within IT storage and security. I got bored of the cubicle life and took a year out to travel around India, Southeast Asia, and Australia. When I got back I swore I’d find a way to combine travelling and a career.
I was a longtime podcast listener and there is just something about the company that looks awesome from the outside (and I still feel the same way on the inside I should add!!). It looked to me like a group of people living life on their own terms; running a killer business and travelling the world. That was exactly what I was after.
I’m responsible for the Vetting, Customer Service, and Migration departments within Empire Flippers so I’m kept fairly busy! The majority of my time is spent developing processes to improve the way we engage with buyers and sellers at various points in the process.
Of course, I have to do the occasional bit of fire-fighting when that doesn’t quite go as planned but generally, things are running well. As readers will likely know from our quarterly updates, we’re growing pretty quickly right now and, of course, that creates some operational challenges. I can think of worse problems to have though!
I’d buy a content site for sure, preferably one with a good chunk of traffic from organic search. I just think that so much of the groundwork has been done on those sites and there are a ton of different directions that you can take it.
I wouldn’t be too bothered about how it was monetised when I bought it; I’d just be looking for a niche that appealed to me and a good spread of traffic across the pages.
Most of my blog-reading time currently is spent on people who I think are experts in the ‘habits’ field. Ultimately, how you spend your days is how you spend your life so we’re the sum or our habits (for better or worse).
I think James Clear is a real standout in that space. I also like Taylor Pearson who I’m sure a lot of our audience are familiar with. And finally, Alexander Juan Antonio Cortes is someone I came across recently; his stuff is in a similar vein but with a bit more of a fitness twist.
Other than that, I’m obsessed with Sam Harris’ Waking Up podcast and stoked to be going to see him in Dublin in a few months.
That I’m capable of getting a decent suntan!
Definitely the time I spent a month riding a motorbike from Saigon to Hanoi. Stretches of the Ho Chi Minh trail are stunning, the people were super friendly the entire way; nothing comes close.
No idea
I’m definitely taking Swig. The guy is super resourceful, definitely the fixer in the company. I’d put good money on him hatching a plan to get us rescued in no time at all.
